Of cats and girls…
Thursday, February 2nd, 2006I think I’m going to get a kitten this weekend. For the longest time I ruled out getting a pet because I didn’t want to neglect it by leaving it home alone while I work and gallivant around town. Then a wise man told me, "where do you think that cat is going to be happier–sitting by itself in a cramped up cage in a shelter or sitting by itself in your big spacious apartment?" DUH! One of my good friend’s Shannon recently got 2 tiny kittens and I’ve been acting as the aunt to Roz’s most precious bundle of kitten-love, Kitten-la (or Mrs. Hand, an inside joke derived from South Park’s Mr. Hat.)
When I was sick over the weekend–with stomach cramps and all kinds of aches–I could have used a little pussy to curl up around and pet. When I can’t go to sleep for whatever reason, I’m sure that a furry frizzy cat could help relax me and make me sleep better. But most importantly, I want a cat because they’re cute, fun, and so many need loving homes!
While I’m on the topic of animals… I just want to say that a great reason to get the Washington Post is for the "Animal Watch" section in the District insert that comes out every Thursday. This section highlights calls into Animal Control and features some city animal hi-jinks. It’s HILARIOUS! Tell me if you agree and think this is funny:
Old Dog Infirm, Not Rabid
OAK AND BROWN STREETS NW Jan. 16. A woman reported that she found a stray dog that was "rabid, with blood-shot eyes" and "trying to hurt himself" in a street. When an animal control officer arrived and found an old, blind and deaf dog, a passerby recognized it, said it belonged to her neighbor and took the animal to its owner."
HILARIOUS! Or how about this one:
Puppy Rescued from Traffic
MINNESOTA AVE. SE 3700 Block. Jan 21.An animal control officer caught a 10-month-old beagle running in and out of traffic. The dog was wearing a blue T-shirt but no collar. It was held at the D.C. shelter pending contact by the owner or adoption.
This dog was wearing a blue t-shirt and playing "chicken" on Minnesota Ave. Sad but at the same time funny, no?
